Roller shutters, external blinds or awning: choosing the right sun protection

Protecting a home from the sun isn’t only about keeping the heat out. Depending on the room and its orientation, you may also want to keep the view, control the light, preserve your privacy or enjoy the terrace in midsummer. Roller shutter, external venetian blind, fabric screen or awning: each solution meets a specific need. Here is how we help our customers put together the right combination, from the bedroom window to the large living-room glazing.

Four solutions, four roles

The roller shutter, the most versatile

A roller shutter protects against heat, but also against cold and noise, and improves security against break-ins. We install uPVC or aluminium shutters from Roma and Bornemann, manual or with a Somfy motor. They fit into compact boxes and can be matched to your Schüco windows.

The external venetian blind, to control the light

The external venetian blind is a premium solution: its adjustable slats let in just the light you want without blocking the view outside. It stops rooms from overheating and reduces the need for air conditioning, which is why it is so popular in low-energy homes in Luxembourg.

The vertical fabric screen, the textile touch

For windows and glazed doors, a vertical fabric screen offers sun protection with a textile look. It comes in a wide range of colours and levels of transparency, and can be motorised with Somfy.

The awning, for living outdoors

On the terrace, an awning creates a shaded area. We install Erhardt Markisen awnings with a full cassette: when retracted, the cassette protects the fabric and the mechanism, extending their lifespan. Made in Germany and wind-resistant, they come with plain, striped or textured fabrics.

Choosing by room and use

• Bedrooms: the roller shutter, for darkness, insulation and security.
• Very sunny living room or office: the external venetian blind, to keep light and view without overheating.
• Windows and glazing where you want discreet protection: the vertical fabric screen.
• Terrace: the full-cassette awning, with or without automatic sensors.

One house often combines several solutions. Matching colours and sizes adapted to every opening keep the façade consistent.

Manual or motorised?

All our sun protection can be motorised with Somfy: mechanical or electronic wired systems, or io-homecontrol radio technology, which allows full home automation. Your existing manual shutters can be motorised too: we replace the manual axle with a compatible Somfy tubular motor.

With Somfy’s TaHoma box, you then control everything centrally:

• custom scenarios: wake-up, leaving home, evening;
• automatic opening and closing at sunrise and sunset;
• control from your smartphone, at home or remotely;
• compatibility with Alexa and Google Home.

And against insects?

So you can enjoy evenings with the windows open, we also install made-to-measure M&S Insektenschutz insect screens: fixed frames, screen doors, roller, pleated or sliding models for large glazing. They are discreet and can be matched to your windows.

We come to your home to look at the openings and take measurements, then you receive a detailed quote, free and with no obligation.
