Sectional garage door price: what shapes your quote
Size, insulation, finish, options, motor and installation: the six items that make up the quote for a sectional garage door, with two typical configurations compared.

How much does a sectional garage door cost? It comes down to six things. Every door we install is a made-to-measure sectional garage door: its quote is built around your opening, the comfort you expect and the style of your home. The price of a garage door is therefore best read item by item. Here is how it breaks down, with two typical configurations to compare, before you request your own quote for a Hörmann garage door.
Sectional garage door price: the six items in the quote
1. Size and measurements
A sectional door is made to the centimetre for your opening, single or double. A double sectional door is wider, so it needs more panels and larger tracks, springs and reinforcements than a single door: width and height are therefore the first item in the quote. When we measure up, we also check the headroom above the opening, the side room on each side of it and the space available under the garage ceiling. These measurements determine the right track system, because the door leaf runs back horizontally under the ceiling.
2. Panels and insulation
The Hörmann LPU42 sectional door we install comes in steel or solid wood. Its 42 mm double-skin steel panels are filled with polyurethane foam: highly effective thermal insulation, and a real plus for a garage that is attached to the house, heated or used as a workshop. Timber sectional garage doors bring the warmth of real joinery, while steel needs very little maintenance. The choice depends on the style of your façade and how much upkeep you are happy with. All Hörmann sectional garage doors meet the European standard EN 13241.
3. Design, colours and finish
This is often where your heart decides. The Hörmann garage door range offers a very wide choice of colours: white, anthracite grey, black, brown, fir green, night blue and any RAL colour on request. For the surface, you can choose smooth, stucco, M or L ribs, cassettes, or the Decograin wood-effect finish (Golden Oak, Night Oak, Dark Oak). Each finish is itemised in your quote, so you can choose with full knowledge.
4. Windows, glazing and wicket door
Windows or a glazed row at the top let daylight into the garage, and design models with an aluminium frame or the glazed sectional door go even further. A wicket door, built into the door or as a separate matching side door, lets you take out a bike or the bin without opening the whole door: real everyday comfort, and a separate line in the quote. A door without a wicket door remains the simplest option, secured by its lock or by the motor.
5. Motorising your door: the operator and its accessories
A sectional garage door can stay manual, but most of our customers choose a motorised sectional garage door: no more getting out of the car in the rain. We install Hörmann ProMatic operators, a high-performing entry-level range, and SupraMatic E or SupraMatic P, which open faster and offer advanced safety features. Around the motor, each control is added to suit your habits:
- Hörmann BiSecur remote controls;
- wall-mounted code keypad or fingerprint reader;
- smartphone control over Bluetooth with BlueSecur;
- backup battery or solar module if the garage has no power supply;
- lighting built into the operator, and anti-lift protection that locks the door once it is closed.
A power socket near the operator is needed: we check this connection during our visit. In a power cut, the motorised door can be released from the inside and opened by hand. Planning the motor when you order the door gives you a consistent whole, installed and adjusted in one go.
6. Installing your door
Installation covers removing the old door, fitting the new door with its tracks and motor, then adjustment and commissioning by our teams. If your opening needs any particular adaptation, we tell you during the visit, so that your quote reflects the whole job.
Two typical configurations, compared
To make these six items concrete, here are two doors we often come across. Your own quote is then calculated on your measurements and your choices.
Configuration A: the single door, motorised and practical
- Size: single garage, one car.
- Panels: LPU42 in steel, insulated double skin.
- Finish: white, standard ribbed surface.
- Glazing and wicket door: the door alone, solid, without a wicket door.
- Motor: ProMatic, with a BiSecur remote control.
- Installation: removal of the old door, fitting, adjustment and commissioning.
Configuration B: the premium double door
- Size: double garage, wide door.
- Panels: LPU42 in steel, insulated double skin.
- Finish: Decograin wood-effect finish.
- Glazing and wicket door: integrated wicket door and a row of windows.
- Motor: SupraMatic P, BiSecur remote controls and BlueSecur smartphone control.
- Installation: removal of the old door, fitting, adjustment and commissioning.
Why B calls for a larger budget than A
Every difference shows up in the quote: the extra width adds panel area, tracks and springs; the wood-effect finish and the wicket door add manufacturing steps; the premium motor brings more speed and extra safety features, and smartphone control complements the remotes. Anything between A and B can be put together freely, item by item.

Frequently asked questions
Why does the price of a sectional garage door vary so much?
Every door is made to measure. The quote depends on its size, the panels, the finish, options such as a wicket door or glazing, the motor and installation. Your quote itemises each of these.
Do you charge for the quote?
The quote is free and with no obligation. After your request, our team gets back to you within 24 hours and comes to measure your opening.
How long is it between the quote and installation?
Allow several weeks between signing the quote and installation, as the door is made to measure. The exact lead time depends on the model and options, and is confirmed when you sign.
Can a manual sectional garage door be motorised later?
An existing door can often be motorised. The simplest option is still to choose the motorised version when you order, so the door is installed and adjusted in one go: ask us for advice.
Which garage door offers the best insulation?
A sectional garage door with polyurethane-filled double-skin panels, such as the 42 mm Hörmann LPU42, insulates an attached or heated garage very well. Seals all around the frame and a floor seal complete the insulation.
Do you maintain the door after installation?
Yes. Fermé-Lux maintains garage doors for homeowners and businesses alike: checking the springs, cables and motor, adjusting and lubricating, so the door keeps running smoothly for years to come.
